16 Tips on how to do your 100-day project

These tips can help you to bring out the best of your project and start with a huge advantage rather than figuring them out on your own.

Knowing some useful things from the beginning on how to do your project can allow you to have a better start and reach even further. Some of the tips I am going to share with you are mentioned by Rich Armstrong from Taptapkaboom in his Skillshare class. (That class, was the starting point for me. I recommend you to check that out.) So I had some of the tools too, but I didn't take them seriously because 100 sounded too much and I was unsure about the whole project and about me doing it. :))

But even if you are unsure, you would better keep them in mind. So here they are.

1. See how much time you have available a day for the project, fit your project in that time frame.

2. Keep it small, don't grow too much. Grow, but grow wisely.

3. Pick a time of the day. Doing your project at about the same time every day will help you develop a habit much faster.

4. Make a list of ideas of what to draw or create. Write down everything that comes into your mind and constantly expand your list of new ideas.

5. Have a second list. Here you are going to plan for about a week what to draw/do exactly. If you are going to use Instagram to share your work you can use this planning to create a nice grid.

6. When doing your project turn off any distractions and fully focus on your task. This will help you to get the best out of your project and finish your task in the established time.

7. Create a nice workspace for yourself with all the supplies you will need. Make it look homey so you will feel good spending time there.

8. Develop a work-system with precise steps to follow. This will help you be more efficient in time and focus more on effectively creating.

9. Share your project with the world. That can be an extra motivation to continue doing your project. You can also get valuable feedback and find new ideas.

10. Track your project. Have a grid of 100 spaces to fill or a notebook. It is also valuable to write down the things you have learned every day and your experience doing your project.

11. Integrate easier days into your project. 100 days are a lot so allow yourself to slow down and take a breath from time to time, but still by creating. Make sure that your results will still fit the whole picture of the project. (For me they were the black and white drawings.)

12. Try to be consistent and don't skip days.

13. But life is life, there will be days when it will be impossible for you to do your project. Do that day's project a day before or after even if that means that you have to do two in one day. It is your project, so you decide how to manage those days but, don't make a habit out of skipping days.

14. 100 sounds too much? Try my method. Do ten days. I'm sure you can. Then, if you could do it once, you can do it again and again and again, until 100. If 100 still sounds too much try a 30 or 50-day project.

15. Do only one project at a time.

16. Day 100 should not be the last day of your project. Put all your thoughts together, the things you have learned and experienced so, that you will have a full learning experience with a conclusion. In my case it resulted in this website/blog, adding two more weeks to my 100-day project. I'm so glad that I made this too.

This project is all about the journey. Yes, you will create amazing art and you will have great results in the end, but that is just a small part of a project like this. The real value is in growing and evolving, in becoming more and better, reaching your full potential, facing your fears, and learning to control yourself. And I think that in life, in general, it is more important what we become rather than what we have or gather.

If my project inspires you to do yours, I will be happy to hear about it, so let me know. Tag @agotapopillustration or use #agotapopillustration so that I can find your project. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did and that you will turn that experience to your full benefit.
