A cute watercolour project
We all love cute things! But how to draw something cute?
Drawing cute animals or anything cute was never my thing but I was always so pleased to see how some artists can draw the cutest cuties ever with those big heads, tiny bodies, huge or tiny eyes and blushed cheeks. So cute that you just melt away! :)
Scrolling down the list of Yasmina's classes on Skillshare I found this one on how to draw cute animals! :D Oh! I was thinking that it is so amazing! But at the same time, I was so sceptical about my abilities to draw cuties. But I am a curious person so I had to try. And I am so glad I did!
For those who don't know Yasmina, she is a watercolour artist and teacher, one of my favourite teachers! She managed to make me understand how watercolour works. The way she explains it's just amazing! You can find her on Instagram at @yasminacreates Her art is all about cuties!
So here are my cute animals that I have created following Yasmina's gorgeous class.
The first step was to observe the animal we wanted to "cutify". :D
I still need a lot of practice at this step. But the idea is to observe some specific characteristics of that animal, characteristics that we can use later in the process of creating the cute version. For this, we have used some reference photos of real animals.
Then with the study and observation part done, cuties can be sketched out following some rules: big head, small body, rounder shapes the better, tiny tiny eyes, low and far apart, cute little nose, cute little mouth or no mouth at all, not too many details. And the cutie is done! All this in pencil of course! Then my favourite part, the inking!
But the cuties are much cuter in colour, watercolour and a light touch of coloured pencils, of course. :D
:) :) :)
The little chicken though turned out a little bit sad I guess, but still cute... Maybe those eyelashes are to blame. My favourites are the little deer and the jellyfish. :)... but all are cute after all! :)) Which one is your favourite?
I hope you enjoyed these little cuties! I also hope that they made your day a little bit cuter. :) Maybe you will give it a try too!
Let me know your thoughts about this watercolour project!
Much love! I wish you a cute day!
